Among the 4 P’s, I feel Product is the primary one as the rest of the P’s won’t exist without this.
Product could be Physical or services offered, here are my views on a software product.
Product can be well mapped similar to “maslow”, moving up one level without full filling the base level will shake you up.
For a product it starts with
Quality – Synonym Correctness : It all starts with understanding of a real problem and solutionizing it. Quality of a software system is measured by the degree to which both functional and non-functional requirements are met.
Availability & Reliability : A product is not usable unless it is made available when required, no matter how efficient the product is. Availability and Reliability of a software system is measured by the severity of defects and we all know that zero defects in an impossible goal, we are talking about defects that do not interfere in the normal operation of the system.
Proficiency : This is a measure of how well the software enables work to be done quickly and efficiently
Usability : This is the experience user gets, this refers to the ease of use or user friendliness of the software. This is measured of effort required to learn and use the application.
The bottom 3 are the ones which needs immediate attention as these are the factors that mostly causes dissatisfaction among users
Quality is more than just the absence of defects. As a famous quote: “you can’t test quality into a product.” Simply removing defects isn’t enough to ensure quality. Removing defects only reveals the inherent quality of the product. If all the defects are removed but what is left doesn’t have the quality characteristics that are important to the customer, it won’t be considered a quality product.
